How Often Should You Get a Brazilian Wax

Society can make us feel pressured to constantly keep ourselves “properly” groomed – especially when it comes to pubic hair. With such a strong stigma following body hair, how do we know when to get waxed and how often are waxing services appropriate for our needs? Well, the answer is simple. We’re here to help you navigate the world of waxing, and guide you through how frequently you should meet with your waxing esthetician

Signs that it’s time to start establishing a regimen

Believe it or not, establishing a consistent regimen is a great way to take care of your body hair. The routine process can help you alleviate any stress or unexpected situations where you forget to touch up before going out. A great waxing routine includes regular appointments, spaced out roughly 4 to 5 weeks apart. Exfoliate and moisturize in between appointments for best results!

Your body hairs are in the midst of varying growth cycles

how often should you get a brazilian?

In addition to taking some stress out of the day-to-day tasks in life, creating a waxing schedule allows all of your hairs to synchronize their growth cycles. That’s right: all of your hairs grow, rest, and fall at different times. When you cultivate a consistent waxing schedule, all of the hairs within the area being waxed begin to grow on the same cycle.

You’re struggling with ingrown hairs after big gaps between your brazilian wax

If you find yourself struggling to defeat the annoyance that we know as ingrown hairs, then it may be time to implement a waxing routine. Once you’ve established a consistent pattern of waxing, any new regrowth becomes thinner and less common than it was before. When the new hair growth becomes thinner, it is less likely to get trapped under layers of dead skin, practically removing the risk for ingrown hairs. Having an esthetician to keep your skincare routine in check helps too!

Irritated skin and patchiness

If any new regrowth starts to become patchy, or the surrounding skin becomes increasingly or regularly irritated, this may be another indicator that a regular waxing session could work in your favor. Waxing regularly allows your skin to become adjusted to the entire process. As time goes on, your skin will begin to adapt and find itself less irritated after each session.

Do you struggle with organizing your self care schedule?

If you’re thinking to yourself – “Man, I would love to be THAT person who has their daily, weekly, and monthly activities planned to a T, but I don't really think that lifestyle is sustainable for me” – have no fear! We’re here to walk you through easy, minimalistic ways that can set you up for success with your routine. Once you get the hang of it, planning around your wax will come to you like clockwork.

How to space out your appointments

First, it is critical to know when to schedule your appointments. This aspect will be slightly more difficult at first since your hair follicles are not synchronized.

When starting out, you will have to visually wait for your hair to be at least a quarter inch in length prior to booking your next session. Once you get a feel for how long it takes for your hair to reach a quarter inch, you can begin scheduling appointments based on that timeframe. A general average is somewhere between 4 to 5 weeks from your last appointment.

Set calendar reminders in your phone

Whether you’re a fridge calendar person, or a yearly planner person – it’s important to include your appointments digitally on your phone. While you may forget to write in your planner, or update your home calendar, your phone is always with you and comes with the added benefit of being able to automatically schedule recurring  appointments.  After all, establishing a routine is hard and the best way to find success is creating a reliable way for you to keep receiving reminders that keep you on track.

Choose dates and times that are friendly and flexible for you

Another way to keep you on track is to make sure that you set yourself up by choosing dates and times that allow for flexibility. For example, try to avoid your self-care day on a day where you run a bunch of other errands. Life has a way of changing rapidly, so make sure that you have set aside enough time to take care of your skin and relax for a bit. Otherwise, you may compromise your ability to maintain your routine!
