How Long Does a Brazilian Wax Last?

Lets face it, everyone's a little different, and that’s OK! Generally speaking, a Brazilian wax and bikini wax can last around 3 weeks before stubble appears, but it all depends on your hair growth cycle. Around 4 to 6 weeks is when hair has grown back and it may be time for another hair removal session.

The general rule of thumb for how long waxing lasts

So, while we average around 3 weeks, that’s just our general guide. Many different factors can determine how quickly or how slowly your hair grows back. Regardless of the timeframe, it is important to make sure that at least a quarter inch of hair is present prior to making your next waxing appointment so that the hard wax can grip on to the hair follicles. So yes, you will need hair around your bikini area before you can come in for your next grooming appointment, but that’s completely normal!

What are the factors that affect hair growth?

While the average Brazilian wax lasts around 3 weeks, that number can change and  be affected by multiple things. Let's take a look at what plays a part in the regrowth time:

Family history and genetics

Studies have shown that your lineage and family history can impact not only how fast or slow your hair grows, but also how thick or curly it is!

Hormones and pregnancy

Hormones play a large role in how fast your pubic hair can grow back. Higher hormone levels can create a shorter growth cycle, which means less fallout and overall thicker, “faster growing” hair. This reaction is similar when it comes to pregnancy. There is an elevated amount of estrogen which means the hair growth cycle is shortened and can cause faster hair growth.

The benefits of waxing regularly

So, let’s get to the good stuff: What is the benefit of waxing regularly? Well, surprisingly enough, waxing regularly results in finer hairs and sparser growth overall due to the removal of the hair root when waxing. In addition, it also means the likelihood of ingrown hairs decreases significantly, as well as the complete removal of the risk of pesky razor rash!

How does aftercare affect hair regrowth?

Whether you remove all that hair “down there”, or choose to leave a landing strip, aftercare is important to make sure that your skin is healthy and ingrown hairs are minimized. If the proper aftercare is not adhered to, it can cause complications to the waxing process and take away from the full potential of smooth, soft skin.

Exfoliation to prevent ingrown hairs

Just like exfoliation prior to your appointment is important, so is exfoliating after your appointment. Just make sure to wait at least 48 hours after your appointment before going in with our recommended exfoliant, Hylunia Grape Seed Scrub. When you exfoliate it not only removes dirt, oil, and dead skin cells, but it also ensures that the buildup of those things don't cause ingrown hairs. You worked so hard for your smooth skin, so let’s make sure it stays smooth!

Aftercare guidelines

First and foremost, avoid tight clothing for at least 24 hours after your appointment. In addition, we know it may be hard, but please refrain from touching, picking, or itching your newly waxed area. Avoid hot water, saunas, and tanning beds or other sun exposure for the first two days after your waxing appointment.

We also recommend staying hydrated on the inside and outside! Drink lots of water and apply moisturizer regularly to maintain your soft skin glow.

Last, but certainly not least, please do not shave between sessions! This can cause an interruption of the hair growth cycle, and will make you postpone your next session. Not to mention, you’ll lose the benefits of sparser growth and finer hairs if you don’t continuously pull hair from the root.

Is there anything you can do to make your wax last longer?

While we understand that having long-lasting waxing results is what we want to achieve, patience is key! Keeping up with your wax aftercare, including exfoliating and moisturizing, is your best bet at making sure you have healthy, hair-free skin. The truth is: it takes a while and a few consistent waxing sessing to slow down hair growth. Be patient with yourself and we’ll work with you to achieve your waxing goals!
